Mkapa applauds JK, NSSF on Kigamboni Bridge

Dar es Salaam. Retired President Benjamin Mkapa congratulated on his successor President Jakaya Kikwete and the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) for their financial commitment to undertake the multi-billion Kigamboni Bridge.

The former president initiated the project in 2002.

The 680 meter bridge cost US$ 143 million (Sh 248 billion). It started in September 2012, and was meant to be completed in 36 months.

Speaking after receiving the progress report on construction work over the weekend, the former president said the decision to undertake the project was brave.

“I am happy that President Kikwete did not bank on external funding to ensure that Tanzania realizes its development agenda…. It is my hope that he will inaugurate this bridge,” said Mr Mkapa.
