More rains, strong winds to wreak havoc in Dar and coastal areas

Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has reminded citizens to be prepared for heavy rainfalls that are expected to hit Dar es Salaam and other coastal areas for the next four days.

The forecaster said the heavy rainfalls will also bring strong wind, reaching 40 kilometres per hour, and may cause floods and affect some economic activities.

TMA’s severe weather impact-based forecast released on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, indicates Tanga, Pwani, Mafia, Unguja, and Pemba isles and some areas along the southern coast of the Indian Ocean.

“Starting today, Wednesday, November 1, 2023, Lindi and Mtwara regions will be hit by strong winds reaching 40km per hour. Some other expected impacts include the disruption of transport and marine activities, according to TMA's impact forecast.

The authority said it was closely monitoring developments and would issue updates whenever appropriate. “You are advised to consult TMA for specialised outlooks and forecasts that suit their specific needs,” said TMA in the statement
