Morocco Square in Dar es Salaam 97 percent complete, says NHC

Dar es Salaam. One of the most prominent real estate projects at the Morocco intersection in Dar es Salaam, dubbed 'Morocco Square' is 97 percent complete, the National Housing Corporation (NHC) has announced.

NHC also says that 94 percent of the mall and retail shops have already been leased, with the 81-room hotel also been bought by an Indian company that will operate it. 

Speaking to editors on Thursday, August 3, NHC’s director general Hamad Abdallah, said Morocco Square has Tanzania's most sophisticated shopping mall, adding that the entire project cost the corporation Sh137 billion. 

On how the government will recoup its money back, NHC said they will be collecting not less than Sh850 million per month from tenants, with annual collections set at Sh9 billion.

The project features office space on Tower 1 which has 20 storeys, Tower 2 - 17 storeys, a 22-storey building which has 100 apartments, supermarkets and retails, cinema hall, conference, coffee shops, 13-storey hotel with 81 rooms.

The Morocco Square was once considered a white elephant after the project stalled for several years under the previous regime before being revived in 2022 under the current leadership.
