Moshi coffee farmers call for improvement of prices

Moshi. Coffee growers in Kilimanjaro region want the price of the cash crop raised to Sh5,000 per kilogramme from the current Sh3,000. Falling production of the once leading export crop has often been attributed to poor incentives to the growers, especially in Kilimanjaro where a few years back some farmers were reported to have abandoned cultivation of coffee. A chairperson of the coffee growers association at Uru-Njari, Mr. Felix Masao said coffee production can bounce back to its former level once the farmers are provided with the necessary inputs such as fertilisers, improved seeds and the recommended pesticides.
