Dar es Salaam. A new opposition MP has died four days before she was to be sworn in in Parliament. Ms Hindu Mwenda from the Civic United Front (CUF) was among eight MPS nominated in July by the National Electoral Commission after the party had expelled eight others for indiscipline. They were to be sworn in at the start of House session on Tuesday, according to well established parliamentary procedures.
CUF Deputy Secretary General, Ms Magdalena Sakaya confirmed that Ms Hindu died Friday evening at her home at Kibada in Kigamboni district. She will be burred on Sunday, September 3 at the Kisutu Cemetery in Ilala municipal.
Ms Sakaya described the former MP elect as hard working and honest to the party who was ready to serve the party in any assignment.
She was among the members who actively participated in the building of the party since the 1990’s.
“She was so popular in her home region of Tabora. I have no words to correctly depict her character but she was a person with good heart and ready to serve the country at the best of her capabilities,” said Ms Sakaya, adding that Ms Hindu had stomach complications.
