Dar es Salaam. The National Council for Technical Education (Nacte) has taken various measures against 48 technical institutions for various offences committed, including failing to adhere to registration conditions and offering unapproved programmes.

In a statement released yesterday, Nacte explains that out of that, 26 technical institutions have their certificates been cancelled for failing to adhere to Regulation 20 of the Registration of Technical Institutions Regulations, 2001.

The Nacte acting executive secretary, Dr Adolf Rutayuga, said 20 technical institutions had been identified as offering unapproved programmes, while two technical institutions had been found offering programmes in satellite centres/campuses not registered by the Nacte. “Nacte conducted monitoring visits to those technical institutions to assess their compliance with Nacte academic quality standards in delivering training programmes,” he said.

He said technical institutions were required to seek the approval of the council before offering any programme, adding that the approval entailed curriculum validation for the intended programme and recognition of the department earmarked to offer that programme.
