Manyara. The minister for Information, Communication and Information Technology, Nape Nnauye, has commended Airtel Tanzania for its commitment to bridging the digital divide and empowering local communities through technology.

Mr Nnauye was speaking during his recent visit to the Manyara region, where he inspected one of the towers constructed by the telecom company.

The tower, situated in Namelock village, Kiteto district, symbolises a vital step towards improving connectivity in areas that have long been disconnected from vital communication networks.

It is part of Airtel's initiative funded by the Universal Communications Service Access Fund (UCSAF) and the World Bank under the Digital Tanzania Project (DTP) project.

"Initiatives like these are pivotal in ensuring that every citizen, regardless of location, has access to essential communication services. I commend Airtel Tanzania for their dedication to this cause, and I am confident that the benefits brought about by this development will positively impact the lives of the locals in Namelock Ward and beyond," Mr Nnauye said.

He further said that the tower, along with the other 65 that have started operating, proves that Airtel Tanzania is committed to supporting and achieving the government’s goal of bridging the digital divide across the country.

“I applaud Airtel for centering their mission on positively affecting the lives of Tanzanians through their work in telecommunications,” he noted.

Airtel Business Manager, Salim Ngululu, said the impact of the towers on the villagers is expected to be transformative.

He noted that improved connectivity will enable villagers to access a wide range of services, including financial inclusion through mobile saving and mobile money services provided by the telecom company.

Additionally, he said, easy access to loan services via Airtel Money Timiza will further empower the unbanked community.

“The activation of these towers represents our unwavering commitment to connect the unconnected and empower communities through technology. We are grateful for the endorsement from the minister, which underscores the importance of our efforts in bridging the digital divide and driving socio-economic development, “he said.
