NBS warns Geopoll against releasing of unofficial statistics

Dar es Salaam. National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has directed a Kenya based mobile survey company, Geopoll, to stop releasing unofficial statistics because it was against the law.

The company has been releasing data on the state of television viewership viewers in the country.

A statement signed by NBS Director General, Dr Albina Chuwa, indicates that what Geopoll was doing was against the Statics Law.

Dr Chuwa said Section 20 of the statics Act requires NBS to coordinate collection of official statics in the country.

“Statistics released by an individual or an organisation, which didn’t adhere to the Statistics Act, wouldn’t be recognised as official statistics,” said Dr Chuwa.
