New digital medical App launched in Dar es Salaam

Founder and CEO TanzMED Medical App Mtaka Nyoni speaks in Dar es Salaam today during the launch of the mobile App which focuses on improving the availability and delivery of primary care to Tanzanians

Dar es Salaam. A new digital application has  today been launched in Dar es Salaam aimed at bridging the digital gap in health awareness across the country.

Christened TanzMED, this mobile app is now accessible for both Android and iPhone users and can be downloaded for free from the App Store and Google Play.

The TanzMED App features an interactive chatbot powered by artificial intelligence, allowing users to engage directly with medical professionals.

"Users can even initiate video calls to consult our medical experts on various health issues. When necessary, the app directs patients to the nearest hospital, where their appointments are pre-booked for quick attention," explained Mtaka Nyoni, founder and CEO of TanzMED during the launch event in Dar es Salaam.

Nyoni highlighted that TanzMED operates primarily in Swahili and employs an AI named Dr. Amina, using a chatbot-style interface to provide medical advice and recommend subsequent steps in care.

"TanzMED focuses on enhancing access to quality health information and advice, particularly targeting young people and families. Our goal is to empower patients to make informed health decisions," Nyoni added.

"Our app strongly promotes access to appropriate healthcare, thereby improving health-seeking behavior. We recognize that many Tanzanians often seek medical advice only when they fall ill. With TanzMED, you can now seek medical advice anytime and anywhere," emphasized Nyoni.

TanzMED offers guidance on various topics including menstrual health, telemedicine, and a feature called "Ask Your Doctor" allowing users a five-minute video call with a doctor. It also provides tools for tracking women's health, particularly menstrual cycles.

"I began developing this app back in 2022, and to date, we have over 2,000 subscribers. I am pleased that a majority of our subscribers are youths aged between 18 to 34 years," Nyoni mentioned.

"I encourage all Tanzanians to download our application for free from the App Store and Google Play to access our digital medical services," he concluded.
