New incentive packages for public servants in pipeline: PM

Dar es Salaam. The Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has said the government is committed to institute new structure of salaries and incentive packages for public servants to improve work productivity for all public servants, including health workers countrywide.  

According to a statement circulated by the Prime Minister’s office yesterday, the government was still waiting for a report of the task of assessing and auditing human resources being implemented by Public Service Productivity and Remuneration Board (PSPRB).

Prime Minister, completion of such exercise by the PSPRB will enable the fifth phase government under President John Magufuli to institute new structures of salaries and incentives packages for public servants in the country.

Currently the head of public servants (the President) is using the salary and incentive structures formulated by his predecessors.

According to the statement, the premier was delivering such issue when he was addressing health workers at Ushirombo health centre in Bukombe district on Thursday this week after unveiling a plaque for a project of repairing such health centre.

The government has spent Sh500 million for rehabilitation of such health centre, serving thousands of residents in Bukombe district.

Prime Minister Majaliwa urged the government health servants to work hard in ensuring higher level of health service delivery to all citizens regardless of their status, classes, race, tribes and other social differences.

“We want all government health workers to insure that once sick persons enters the health centre is treated like a client with good reception, hearing and treatment without delay,” said.

The Premier also commended Bukombe District Council for implementing a directive issued by the President on construction of dispensaries in all villages, as Bukombe District has already constructed dispensaries in 50 villages out of 52 villages.

He said as a result of such a remarkable achievement the residents of Ushirombo now have a relief as they cannot travel long distances to either Kahama or Geita town to look for better health services.

He listed the services that will be available at Ushirombo health centre as surgery, reproductive and child health care, health laboratory services and mortuary.

The Executive Director (DED) of Ushirombo District Council Mr Dionis Myinga on his part was quoted as saying that the Ushirombo health centre project, which started in in June 22 this year is scheduled to be completed in December this year.

The DED said that the objective of such new health centre was to introduce surgery services, reproductive health services for pregnant women and improved emergency services for in-patients.

“This project particularly aims at providing services to pregnant women who have been suffering from poor reproductive health services for a long time. This centre will provide health services for at least 54,271 people,” he said.

According to him, after the project completion Sh 436.9 million will be spent, while the remaining Sh63.06 million will be spent of construction of roads to link such a modern health centre.
