Dar es Salaam. The Bank of Tanzania (BoT) Governor, Emanuel Tutuba, has confirmed that new Tanzanian banknotes bearing the updated signatures of Minister of Finance Dr Mwigulu Nchemba and himself will officially enter circulation on February 1, 2025.

Tutuba made the announcement on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, during a ceremony in Dar es Salaam where he handed over the new notes of denominations Sh10,000, Sh5,000, Sh2,000, and Sh1,000 to Dr Mwigulu, in line with the country’s financial laws and regulations.

“I am pleased to inform you, that the printing of the new banknotes, based on the 2010 series, has been completed. We have already communicated this to the public through the Government Gazette,” said Tutuba.

The new notes will circulate alongside the current ones, maintaining their existing security features, size, colors, and overall design, with the key difference being the updated signatures of the Minister of Finance and the BoT Governor.

Previously, the 2010-series notes featured the signatures of the former Minister of Finance and now Vice President of Tanzania, Dr Philip Mpango, and the former BoT Governor, Professor Florens Luoga. The updated notes now bear the signatures of the current leadership.

In his remarks, Dr Mwigulu expressed gratitude to President Samia Suluhu Hassan for approving the process and commended Governor Tutuba for overseeing the smooth and professional printing of the new banknotes.
