Dar es Salaam. One person has been confirmed dead and 15 others severely injured after a commuter bus crashed into a passenger train at the Kamata railway crossing in Dar es Salaam on Thursday morning.

The incident has been confirmed by the Tanzania Railway Corporation (TRC) communications unit, which says the accident occurred while a commuter bus was crossing the railway line in the busy Kariakoo area.

According to the statement, the wounded are 15, including 10 women and 5 men, and they have all been admitted to Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) for treatment.

"TRC continues to urge drivers to observe road safety signs and be careful to avoid accidents at road and railway junctions," the railway corporation said in a public statement.

It was not, however, disclosed if the train that was on trial before kicking off its routes had any passengers inside.
