Over 1,000 homes to be connected to natural gas in Dar es Salaam

Dodoma. The Government of Tanzania, through the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC), is implementing a plan to connect over 1,000 households in various areas of Dar es Salaam to natural gas. Of those, 279 households are expected to be in Kinondoni District.
These figures were shared today, Thursday, April 17, 2025, by the Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Dastan Kitandula, who was responding on behalf of the Minister for Energy during a parliamentary session.
The question was raised by Kinondoni MP (CCM), Tarimba Gulam, who sought an update on the Government’s progress in distributing natural gas for home use in Kinondoni.
In a follow-up question, the MP asked what the Government’s top priority is in ensuring that citizens gain access to clean cooking energy, which he noted is currently a national priority.
In response, the Deputy Minister said the Government has already installed infrastructure for the distribution of natural gas in Kinondoni District, where 155 homes in the Mikocheni area have been connected to the natural gas network.
However, he acknowledged that there were earlier challenges in implementation, but assured the public that those issues have now been resolved.
He added that residents can now expect to benefit from gas connections, which will help them transition away from unsafe energy sources.
