Over 134,000 candidates to sit Form Six exams as NECTA urges smooth conduct

Dar es Salaam. A total of 134,390 candidates are expected to sit the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) starting tomorrow, May 5, through May 26, 2025, the National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA) has announced.
The examinations will be held in 982 secondary schools and 245 private candidate centres.
Additionally, diploma-level teacher examinations in both Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar will run from May 5 to May 19 at 68 teacher training colleges.
NECTA Executive Secretary Dr Said Mohamed revealed the figures during a press briefing on Sunday, May 4.
Of the 126,957 registered school candidates, 50.87 percent are boys and 49.13 percent girls. A further 7,433 private candidates have registered—4,782 male and 2,651 female.
This marks an 18.37 percent increase from 2024, when a total of 113,536 candidates sat for the same examinations.
Dr Mohamed said 453 school candidates and 151 private candidates have special needs, including those with visual, hearing, intellectual, and physical impairments.
Regarding the teacher exams, 10,895 candidates have registered—3,100 for diploma and 7,795 for certificate levels—down 4.72 percent from 2024’s 11,435.
Dr Mohamed confirmed that all preparations, including the distribution of papers and related materials, have been finalised.
He called on examination committees to enforce security and urged supervisors to uphold professionalism. Citizens were also asked to support peaceful exam conditions by preventing unauthorised access to school premises.
