Police are arresting journalists covering protests in Tanzania amid crackdown on press

Dar es Salaam. Police in Dar es Salaam have arrested two journalists from Mwananchi Communications Limited (MCL) at different times while they were covering peaceful protests organized by Chadema.

One of the journalists has since been released.

Currently, the police are holding Lawrence Mnubi, a videographer for MCL, who was in the Msimbazi area fulfilling his duty to inform the public, equipped with identification and work materials.

Earlier today, photographer Michael Matemanga was arrested in the Buguruni area while also performing his journalistic duties.

He was released after Mwananchi followed up on the situation.

The arrests raise concerns about press freedom and the safety of journalists amid ongoing political tensions in the city.
