  • The arrests follow the circulation of a disturbing video on social media showing Enock with his hands tied, being taken into a bush and assaulted with sticks.

Geita. Police in Geita Region have arrested two suspects, including Liyobahika Village Executive Officer, Ferdinand Antony, in connection with the brutal killing of a young man, Enock Mhangwa, who was allegedly beaten to death.

Three other suspects, including two militiamen, remain at large.

The arrests follow the circulation of a disturbing video on social media showing Enock with his hands tied, being taken into a bush and assaulted with sticks.

“The Police Force wishes to clarify the video circulating on social media, which shows a young man with his hands bound while being beaten,” reads a police statement issued on Friday, July 4, 2025.

The statement confirmed that the incident occurred on June 26, 2025, and that Enock died from injuries sustained during the assault.

According to police, those arrested so far are Liyobahika Village Executive Officer, Mr Ferdinand Antony, and a man identified as Hussein Madebe.

“We are continuing a manhunt for three more suspects, including the Executive Officer of Uyovu Village and two militiamen, who are currently on the run,” the statement said.

Police have issued a strong warning against mob justice and urged the public not to take the law into their own hands.

“Anyone found engaging in such acts will be arrested and prosecuted, just like the suspects in this case,” the statement added.

Viral video sparks outrage

The incident gained national attention after activist Godlistern Malisa posted two short videos on Instagram.

In the first clip, Enock is seen with his hands tied, being forcibly dragged into a bush by several men.

The second video shows him lying on the ground, crying out in pain as he is beaten on different parts of his body with sticks.

“Elder, understand me… elder, understand me. You’re killing me, elder, please understand me,” Enock pleads in the footage.

In another heart-wrenching moment, he is heard saying, “You’ll kill me for no reason. Please, let me pay you, people.”

The graphic content has sparked widespread public outrage, with many calling for swift and decisive justice.

Police have assured the public that all individuals involved in the killing will be apprehended and prosecuted by the law.
