Police block Chadema leaders from using party offices

On Tuesday, police had running battles with opposition supporters in Kahama soon after the announcement of a ban on political rallies.

Kahama. Police reportedly blocked Chadema leaders from entering the party’s regional offices in Shinyanga Town on Wednesday in yet another sign of simmering tension between security forces and the Opposition.

 

On Tuesday, police had running battles with opposition supporters in Kahama soon after the announcement of a ban on political rallies.

 

Twenty-two of those arrested later appeared in the Kahama District Court where they were charged with illegal gathering.

 

Chadema leaders on their way to Mwanza from Kahama stopped in Shinyanga where they wanted to sign a visitors’ book. They were reportedly stopped from entering the regional office.

 

No comment has been obtained from the police on why the Chadema officials, led by the party’s national chairman Freeman Mbowe were not allowed to enter the offices.
