Police launch investigation into attempted kidnapping of businessman in Dar es Salaam

Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Police Force has launched a thorough investigation into a widely circulated video on social media showing two individuals attempting to apprehend and forcibly place a businessman into a vehicle in the Kiluvya area of Dar es Salaam.
An official statement from the Police, released on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, said the incident was reported by the businessman, identified as Deogratius Tarimo, at the Gogoni Police Station on November 11, 2024.
Tarimo, a resident of Kibaha in the Coast Region, said he had been attending a business meeting with the individuals at the Rovenpic Hotel, where he had been in discussions with them since October 25, 2024, when the incident occurred.
Police spokesperson David Misime said efforts were underway to apprehend the suspects, who claimed to be police officers while attempting to force Tarimo into a Toyota Raum.
The Police assured the public that the investigation is progressing and that appropriate legal measures will be taken.
“The Police Force assures that it will apprehend those who attempted to seize and forcibly place the individual in the vehicle, as seen in the video footage. This action will be based on the evidence already collected and additional evidence that continues to be gathered, so that further legal steps may be taken, as no one is above the law,” part of the statement reads.
Details of the incident video
In the 49-second video that began circulating on social media on the night of November 12, 2024, Tarimo is seen being forced into the car while shouting for help, saying, “I’m going to be killed… help me.”
One of the individuals restraining him can be heard saying, “We are police officers… let’s go to Gogoni.” However, towards the end of the video, Tarimo manages to break free from their hold.
