Police to crackdown vehicles with 3D plate numbers

The police force, through its road safety division, has said that it is cracking down on drivers who put 3D plate numbers on their vehicles, a trend that has become popular in Tanzania.

According to the police force's road safety education officer, deputy commissioner Michael Deleli, it is against the law to make modifications to your vehicle because it poses a safety risk for motorists, especially at night.

"People buy plate numbers in their original formats at shops, but then decide to modify and put those with a 3D impression. The letters on the plate numbers have a specific size measurement, so we have started a special operation to remove all 3D plate numbers," he said, faulting those who have turned installing 3D plate numbers into a business.

Furthermore, the police said that they will also continue to crackdown on drivers with tint on their headlights and tail lights.
