Dar es Salaam. The government, through the Public-Private Partnership Centre (PPPC), plans to deploy a team of experts to Mwanza to assess and identify strategic opportunities for impactful partnerships.

The initiative aims to foster collaboration and drive development by leveraging the capabilities of the PPPC.

PPPC’s executive director, Mr David Kafulila, told The Citizen that by the end of January, experts would be sent to Mwanza to identify investment areas to attract investors.

“Mwanza is a hub with significant potential for investment. To realise this potential, the private sector must be informed about available opportunities,” he said.

Mr Kafulila shared this information yesterday during a meeting that involved llemela ward councillors, who visited the centre to learn more about its activities and how it operates.

According to him, the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon), to be hosted by Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania, will present an opportunity for Tanzania to further enhance its investments, as the country is likely to host many of the tournament’s matches due to Kenya coinciding with its general elections in the same year.

“In order to facilitate these activities, we need to educate municipal and district leaders and eliminate unnecessary obstacles that prevent Tanzania from fully benefiting from such opportunities,” he said.

Ilemela’s Mayor, Renatus Mulunga, said they are ready to welcome investors any time because the area has enough land for investments.

“In Ilemela, there is no proper bus terminal, and although a football pitch is supposed to be constructed, the project has yet to commence,” he said.

Ilemela MP, Angela Mabula, who accompanied ward councillors, said the tour is crucial in promoting the economy of Mwanza, particularly Ilemela, which also offers numerous investment opportunities.

She noted that areas not yet announced by the government could present potential investment opportunities during this period.

“If we can make effective use of this area, it could become a hub of strategic importance, with the football pitch being a key component. Let us explore opportunities for partnerships,” she said.

The ruling party, CCM, chairperson for Ilemela District, Mr Yusufu Bujiku, urged authorities responsible for making development work to make flexible decisions to enable the country’s progress.

“It is important to strengthen awareness amongst leaders about PPPC because it will open their eyes in the matter of investment,” he said.
