Precision Air has started direct flights to Dodoma as it targets the government staff following the relocation to the new capital city.
Dodoma. Precision Air has started direct flights between Dar es Salaam, Dodoma and Kilimanjaro as it seeks to utilize the potentials of government’s relocation to the designated capital.
The flights started on Monday April 1, 2019 in the morning as operated by the company’s ATR 72 aircraft.
The Dar es Salaam – Dodoma and Kilimanjaro – Dodoma flights are part of the efforts to open up the new capital city which the government says relocation has reached over 90 per cent.
The Dodoma District Commissioner Patrobas Katambi who represented the regional commissioner received the flight at the Dodoma airport challenging the airlines to introduce more routes from the capital.
“I thank you Precision Air for connecting to Dodoma but you need to also think of other routes from here. Areas like Mwanza and Kigoma are very important. Construction of an international airport is also progressing well, therefore you can consider bringing in bigger aircrafts once it’s ready,” said Mr Katambi.
Commenting on the launch, Precision Air’s acting managing director Mr Patrick Mwanri said the airline was excited to support government efforts to develop and open up the capital city Dodoma as well as improving aviation sector in Tanzania.
“Our flights to Dodoma will facilitate administrative and business activities between Dodoma and other regions and beyond. We will be operating direct to Dodoma every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday while on Thursday and Friday the flight will connect via Kilimanjaro,” he said.
Relocation to Dodoma is reported to be at its peak with all ministries expected to move to Ihumwa area designed as the government's special township by June this year.
Until recently, Air Tanzania Company Ltd (ATCL) was the main airline having scheduled flights to and from Dodoma and was supplemented by chartered airlines.
Precision Air says it’s actually complementing the other operators instead of competing with them.
