Dar es Salaam. After serving for less than 8 months as head of Tanzania's intelligence agency, Saidi Massoro has been shown the exit door.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan has appointed Ambassador Ali Idi Siwa as the new Director General of the Tanzania Intelligence and Security Services (TISS).

Ambassador Siwa replaces Saidi Massoro, who has been appointed an ambassador.

Ambasador Massoro served as Tanzania's intelligence chief for less than eight months. He was appointed on January 3, this year, to replace Diwani Athuman, to whom he served as deputy director general.

Siwa, who was sworn in today as Tanzania's intelligence chief, served as Tanzania's High Commissioner to Rwanda.

The president's reasons for the changes in the covert security organ remain privy to insiders.
