Prime Minister arrives at Kariakoo market to meet traders

Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa speaks to traders at Kariakoo market

What you need to know:

  • The premier arrived at the market around 10:10pm and is now addressing the traders.

Dar es Salaam. Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa had to leave the Parliament in Dodoma and rush to Dar es Salaam in order to meet Kariakoo traders, who said that if the Premier wanted to meet them, then he should come to Dar es Salaam instead of them traveling to Dodoma to meet him. Saying that it is their right as taxpayers.

Following the demand, Majaliwa arrived at the Kariakoo market to talk to the traders who have closed their shops since Monday morning, calling for the removal of some government taxes that they claim are oppressive.

Majaliwa arrived at the scene of the strike to address the issue of traders' protests, most of whom said that they would not open their shops until the meeting was held.

"I have left the parliament session in Dodoma to come here to listen to what is going on," the PM told the traders.

The traders now want to meet President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
