Private firm to complement MSD drug supplying in Iringa

Iringa. In efforts to try and curb shortage of essential drugs in public health facilities here, regional authorities have contracted Maranatha Pharmacy to supply the same.

This was revealed by head of procurement unit in the Iringa Regional Commissioner’s Office, Ms Juliana Mkalimoto.
She said the decision was taken with guidance from the President's Office--Regional Administration and Local Government.
For his part, Maranatha Pharmacy director Stephen Langeni gave assurance that his firm would play its part as elaborated in the contract.
For his part, Iringa regional medical officer Robert Salim said the MSD was capable to distribute medicines by 85 per cent, expressing optimism that the new supplier would help cover the shortage in time.
“We’re now assured that patients will have access to the medicines at cheaper prices,” he said.
Iringa acting regional administrative secretary Riziki Kisimba warned healthcare providers in the region not to sell medicines at a high price.
“No one should sell medicine in higher prices than what has been determined before,” she said.
