Morogoro. Puma Energy Tanzania has commissioned a 570-kilowatt (kW) rooftop solar power facility at the Alliance One Tobacco Tanzania Limited (AOTTL) factory in Morogoro, marking a significant step in the company’s drive to promote sustainable industrial energy solutions.

The project features 1,296 modern solar modules and six optimised inverters.

The grid-tied system is designed to provide consistent daytime power during the factory’s production season, which runs from May to October.

Puma Energy Tanzania managing director, Ms Fatma Abdallah, described the project as a major step forward for the company and the wider industrial sector in Tanzania.

“This solar facility at Alliance One Tobacco is a landmark achievement—not just for Puma Energy, but for Tanzania’s industrial landscape,” she said.

“It embodies our commitment to delivering sustainable, cost-effective and reliable clean energy solutions. We are proud to lead this transition, demonstrating how innovation can drive both economic growth and environmental responsibility.”

The installation follows a 10-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) signed in April 2024 between Puma Energy and AOTTL.

The agreement guarantees the provision of clean, reliable energy and aims to reduce dependence on conventional power sources.

Construction began in March 2025 and was completed by April, with the solar plant reaching its Commercial Operation Date (COD) on May 4, 2025.

Backed by a 30-year performance guarantee, the rooftop solar plant is expected to offer long-term energy efficiency and reduce the environmental footprint of industrial operations.

Puma Energy said the facility reflects its broader vision to equip Tanzanian industries with innovative and resilient clean energy systems that support sustainable development and economic progress.
