Dodoma. Puma Energy Tanzania has on March 18 launched PumaGas in Dodoma, a step that reflects Puma Energy’s commitment to ensuring affordable and reliable energy solutions for household and commercial use where they are needed in Tanzania.
It underscores the company’s support of Tanzania’s Clean Cooking Strategy for 2024-2030, unveiled in May 2024 by President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the International Energy Agency (IEA)’s Summit on Clean Cooking in Paris.
The Minister of Minerals and Member of Parliament for Dodoma Urban, Anthony Mavunde, attended the launch and commended the company for being a key stakeholder in supporting the government's efforts to promote and facilitate access to clean energy services nationwide and ensure that by 2034, 80 percent of Tanzanians utilise clean cooking energy.
“I would like to congratulate our key energy service and product stakeholders, Puma Energy Tanzania, for their ongoing collaboration with the government to ensure that people in various regions can access reliable services. Public-private partnerships are vital to achieving the national goal of increasing clean energy usage and ensuring accessibility, particularly in rural areas where challenges remain, and encourage other stakeholders to invest more in clean energy too," said Mr Mavunde.
“The rate of clean energy adoption in Tanzania remains inadequate, significantly impacting the country, particularly concerning environmental and health issues. Many Tanzanians continue to depend on firewood and charcoal for cooking, despite the nation's abundant resources that could facilitate a shift away from these traditional fuels. Puma Energy Tanzania’s investment in PumaGas will act as a catalyst for providing citizens with a reliable and affordable clean energy option for domestic and commercial use. I urge awareness campaigns and education to accompany this service launch, as many people still view clean cooking energy as expensive and unsafe. As the government, we stand with you to ensure this initiative reaches more individuals, especially in rural areas,” the Minister for Minerals concluded.
The launch of Puma Energy Tanzania’s clean cooking energy services is part of the company’s strategy to broaden its reach. The service is currently available only in the Dar es Salaam and Pwani regions.
Regarding the launch, Puma Energy Tanzania’s managing director, Ms. Fatma Abdallah, stated that the company is committed to significant investments in infrastructure, storage facilities, and gas cylinder distribution agents.
“This launch underscores our commitment to supporting the government in achieving its goal of transitioning to sustainable energy solutions that promote public health and economic well-being for the current and future generations. Tanzania’s Clean Cooking Strategy aims to transition 80 percent of the population to clean cooking and calls on the private sector to increase investments in LPG.
According to Ms. Fatma Abdallah, LPG is a safe, convenient and cost-effective way to energise our communities; to enable cleaner cooking and reduce the negative impacts of burning traditional cooking fuels.
“Beyond domestic use, LPG is also a vital energy source for commercial and industrial applications, including in hotels, restaurants, hospitals, schools and shopping malls,” she said.
“PumaGas provides users with a reliable, safe, and high-quality alternative energy source, reducing dependence on traditional fuels such as charcoal and firewood, which are harmful to the environment. Therefore, I invite the public and other stakeholders to join us in this mission as we strive to expand access to clean energy solutions nationwide,” concluded the Managing Director of Puma Energy Tanzania.
Customers can purchase gas cylinders at all Puma Energy Tanzania service stations in Dodoma and from authorized retail agents. The company also plans to launch two modern PumaGas stores offering advanced services, including gas refilling and cylinder exchange, ensuring that people experience no interruptions in their daily activities.
To announce the launch of this new service in Dodoma, customers will receive various promotions when purchasing gas cylinders in different sizes, including 6kg, 15kg, and 38kg. Furthermore, the company plans to introduce a bulk energy supply service, offering quantities from 200kg to 20,000kg.
