Samia emphasises patience to youth ahead of rallies
Dar es Salaam. President Samia Suluhu Hassan yesterday counseled ruling party members to be patient and ready to respond to issues that will be raised by the opposition in the wake of lifting the ban on political meetings.
Last week, President Hassan lifted the ban on the rallies imposed in 2016 to implement reconciliation efforts with the opposition which pushed for the restoration of democratic norms.
Speaking in a function organized by the Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party’s youth wing, she asked the youth to focus on facts and logic as the rallies will invite rhetorical arguments in public debate.
The CCM Youth wing (UVCCM) organised walks as part of the activities to mark the 59th anniversary of the Zanzibar Revolution.
“The era of quarrelling and insulting each other in politics should end now. Let’s do meaningful and constructive politics so that we can influence real and productive development,” she said.
On January 3, 2023, during a meeting with political leaders, President Hassan gave decisions on important issues that were related to the political space including lifting the ban on the rallies and promising constitutional reforms.
The ban on political party rallies was imposed by the late President John Magufuli in 2016 in his first address to Parliament in Dodoma, saying the nation had to concentrate on building the nation.
“I urge you to use this opportunity to tell facts, backed with evidence and statistics,” President Hassan told the youth yesterday.
During her address, the President also insisted on their role in creating employment opportunities for themselves and utilise the available resources to their advantage.
She said while the government is tasked with creating a conducive environment for self-enterprising, the youth are tasked to exploit the opportunities in highly lucrative sectors such as agriculture and the blue economy.
“It is your responsibility, as young people, to translate into practice the true meaning of revolution by bringing about an economic, political, and social revolution,” said President Hassan.
She said that they are required to garner more liquidity for the money in circulation to improve and this can be done through small projects that provide revenue.
According to the UVCCM Secretary General Kenani Kihongosi, over 500 people under the UVCCM participated in the 64-kilometre Mapinduzi walk with the slogan ‘Uchumi wa blue kwa maendeleo ya viwanda, vijana tuchangamkie fursa’ which translates to ‘Blue economy for industrial development, youths should be excited about opportunities
“This slogan is to support the isle’s focus towards blue economy, influence more investments to Zanzibar and emphasize how to tap into economic opportunities,” he said.
