SBL elevates local hospitality industry to global standards

Mary Maduhu, the Academic Manager at the National College of Tourism (NCT), speaks during the official kickoff of the Tourism and Hospitality training program for students at the college, in collaboration with Serengeti Breweries Limited (SBL) through its 'Skills for Life' initiative.

Dar es Salaam. Students pursuing hospitality disciplines at the National College of Tourism (NCT) will now undergo an intensive three-month coaching and mentorship program provided by Serengeti Breweries Limited (SBL).

The initiative aims to help shape the next generation of professionals for Tanzania’s thriving tourism and hospitality sector.

As part of a partnership signed last month between the college and the brewery, over 100 students have already enrolled in the program. This forms part of SBL’s “Skills for Life” initiative, which focuses on life skills training.

The students will receive training in practical industry essentials, including global standards for serving alcoholic beverages. This includes mastering mixology, creating signature cocktails and mocktails, and refining bar and beverage service standards.

“This is a unique training program that goes beyond technical expertise. It includes life skills development in areas such as personal branding, time management, leadership, and effective communication,” said Rispa Hatibu, SBL’s Communications and Sustainability Manager, during the inauguration ceremony for the first batch of students.

Hatibu highlighted SBL’s strong commitment to youth development, saying: “This initiative is more than just skills training—it’s about equipping young people with the tools to transform their lives and contribute to the growth of Tanzania’s tourism and hospitality sectors.”

Mary Maduhu, the Head of Academics at NCT, described the program as a representation of the shared vision between SBL and NCT.

“This training is not just about technical skills; it’s about unlocking potential and inspiring confidence in students. It marks the beginning of their journey toward both professional and personal growth,” Maduhu said.

She pointed out that Tanzania’s rapidly growing tourism industry has led to an increasing demand for a skilled workforce, a gap that the partnership between SBL and NCT aims to fill by creating a workforce that meets international hospitality standards.

“Beyond its immediate impact on students, this program reflects a broader commitment to sustainable development. By fostering talent and enhancing employability, SBL and NCT are contributing to Tanzania’s socio-economic growth,” Maduhu added.
