An SGR train on the move

  • This is the second time the electric-powered train has encountered a similar challenge.

Dar es Salaam. A standard gauge railway (SGR) train travelling from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma was on Tuesday delayed for several hours due to technical problems.

This is the second time the electric-powered train has encountered a similar challenge.

On July 31, the train encountered its first issue when travelling from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma and was forced to stop for two hours due to power failure.

A Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC) statement made available to the media said the incident occurred in the early hours of the morning of September 10, 2024, along the Ngerengere area.

"The delay of the journey was caused by technical issues. The challenge was resolved, and transportation services continued to be provided, “reads part of the statement.

TRC’s Head of Public Relations, Jamila Mbarouk, thanked passengers for their patience during the period of the challenge and apologised for the delay that was caused by forces beyond their control.

The first incident occurred just one day before President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s official launch of the electric-powered train services, which took place on August 1, this year.

The Dar es Salaam-Dodoma electric train service had commenced on July 25, 2024.
