Dar es Salaam. Security has been significantly heightened at the Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court today, Thursday, April 24, 2025, as proceedings in the treason case involving Chadema National Chairman, Mr Tundu Lissu, are set to take place virtually.
Armed police officers, some accompanied by police dogs, have cordoned off the court premises and surrounding areas, barring members of the public from approaching.
The tight security measures, implemented by the Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police, have seen batons-wielding officers stationed at key access points.
Only legal representatives have been granted access to the court. Journalists, along with ordinary citizens, have been denied entry, with the case expected to be mentioned online.
“We are not allowing anyone other than lawyers to enter the court,” said one officer at the main gate, where more than 15 others stood guard.

A dramatic scene unfolded earlier in the day when a young man attempted to breach the police line, reportedly shouting that he was ready to die if only to know the fate of Mr Lissu. He was promptly repelled by police dogs patrolling the premises.
In addition to the court, a heavy police presence was noted along Bibi Titi Road, particularly in the Akiba and Baridi areas, where several police vehicles were stationed. Similar scenes were reported at the Fire junction on Morogoro Road, with multiple police vehicles parked roadside, staffed with officers monitoring the situation.
At Kisutu Court itself, The Citizen observed at least five police vehicles, some of which delivered officers before departing, while others remained on site.

Meanwhile, several Chadema supporters were seen being apprehended and taken to nearby police stations. Authorities have issued stern warnings to the public to avoid approaching the court vicinity.
