Six lives lost, four injured in Kilimanjaro rainfall tragedy

Same. Six people, including two members of the same family, have tragically lost their lives, and four others were injured in Same District, Kilimanjaro Region, following disasters caused by heavy rainfall in the area.

The deaths occurred between December 20 and 22, 2024. Four individuals perished after their houses were crushed by falling boulders during the night while they were asleep, and two others were swept away by floodwaters.

The Acting Commander of the Fire and Rescue Force in Kilimanjaro Region, Assistant Inspector Jeremiah Mkomagi, stated that these incidents happened during the night of December 20, 2024.

The deceased have been identified as Joyce Elifuraha (57) and her husband Elifuraha Elienea (59), residents of Mjema Village, along with Hamu Ally (76), a resident of Miombo Village in Mtii Ward, who died when their houses were struck by falling boulders. Hamu’s wife sustained injuries in the incident.

Others who lost their lives include Elibariki Fanuel (48) from Vuje Village, Lazaro Saikon (35) from Mheza Village, and Eliakunda Elisafi (69) from Duma Village.
