State House Dodoma to be inaugurated on May 20

Dar es Salaam. The official inauguration of the State House in Chamwino, Dodoma, has been set for May 20, 2023, the presidency has said.

The construction of the building, started in 2020, when late President John Magufuli laid the foundation stone for the commencement of the project.

In a short video clip by the Directorate of Presidential Communications on social media, the Presidency said that the long wait is over as State House staff led by President Samia Suluhu Hassan will relocate to the new building.

Ahead of the launching of the building, the State House’s Communication Directorate has prepared a series of documentaries featuring retired Presidents and other staff who have served in various positions sharing their experiences working at the highest office in the country.

Chamwino area was chosen by founding father Mwalimu Julius Nyerere as the spot on which the State House should be built in the early 1970s.

As opposed to the State House in Dar es Salaam, which was built by colonialists, the Chamwino State House has been constructed by the government, a task that was carried out by the Tanzania People's Defence Forces (TPDF) -the National Service wing.

It is, however, not known how much the state used to construct the new building which is a replica of the structure in Dar es Salaam.
