Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (Tanesco) has distanced itself from any responsibility for the power outage at the country’s parliamentary building, saying the mishap was not in any way related to a line that delivers electricity to the building.

Speaking about the power outage in Parliament, Tanesco’s acting director of customer services, Martin Mwambene, said due to the sensitivity of Parliament as an institution, its power line is monitored carefully and given priority like it is for hospitals.

"We have seen the power outage report, but we believe that the problem does not come from us and our line is intact," he said.

He said that people associate every power outage with Tanesco.

"It is not always true because the state-owned corporation's responsibility ends at the electric meter; from there, it is the customer who is concerned," he said.
