What you need to know:

  • Between November 2020 and February 2025, the government had successfully created 8,084,204 jobs across both the public and private sectors.

Dodoma. Tanzania’s economy has generated over eight million jobs in the past five years, according to Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa.

While requesting Parliament’s approval for a budget allocation of Sh782.1 billion for the Prime Minister’s Office and its affiliated institutions, as well as for Parliament itself, Mr Majaliwa said that between November 2020 and February 2025, the government had successfully created 8,084,204 jobs across both the public and private sectors.

This figure aligns with the promises made by the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party in its manifesto during the 2020 General Election, where it vowed to create at least eight million jobs, particularly targeting the youth in both formal and informal sectors.

In its 2020 manifesto, CCM outlined a vision focused on protecting and strengthening human dignity, equality, justice, and good governance to maintain peace, unity, and solidarity across the nation.

The manifesto identified six key areas of focus for the party. In addition to the promise of creating eight million jobs, CCM committed to developing a modern, integrated, and competitive economy, anchored in manufacturing, economic services, and infrastructure.

A major component of this strategy was to revolutionize agriculture, livestock, and fisheries to ensure food security, sustainable livelihoods, and to contribute fully to the nation’s development.

The CCM manifesto also placed emphasis on enhancing access to quality health care, education, clean water, electricity, and affordable housing in both rural and urban areas.

Moreover, the party promised to promote the use of research, science, technology, and innovation as key drivers for rapid social and economic progress.
