Tanzania's Drug Control and Enforcement Authority (DCEA) has seized and burned approximately 584.55 kilos of illegal drugs, which include 15.3 kilos of cocaine, 569.25 kilos of heroin.

The DCEA also incinerated over 2,000kgs of bhang and khat (mirungi).

Speaking to journalists on behalf of the Commissioner General, Veronica Matikila, said the incineration of the illicit drugs comes after the completion of the court cases filed at the High Court's Dar es Salaam Division.

The cases were filed at the High Court (Corruption and Economic Sabotage) Division, the Resident Magistrate Court in Kisutu and Kibaha Coastal Region, as well as District Courts in Kinondoni, Ilana, Temeke, and Kigamboni.

The drugs that were incinerated at the Twiga Cement Wazo Hill grounds in Kinondoni district stem from cases filed since 2009 up to 2022.
