Tanzania-Korea friendship flourishes, bearing fruits in infrastructure, health, education, energy, and agriculture
Tanzania and South Korea celebrated their 31st anniversary of diplomatic relations on Tuesday, October 3, with a focus on the many successes of their cooperation in a wide range of areas, including infrastructure, health, education, energy, and agriculture.
The Minister for Culture, Arts and Sports, Dr. Damas Ndumbaro, explained that Tanzania is one of the beneficiaries of Korea's development aid, provided through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF).
This aid has been instrumental in helping Tanzania achieve economic growth, reduce poverty, and implement the 17 goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Dr. Ndumbaro also highlighted some of the specific projects that have been funded by the Korean government, such as the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) Hospital Mloganzila Campus, the Malagarasi River Bridge in the western part of Tanzania, and the Tanzanite Bridge in Dar es Salaam.
The South Korean ambassador to Tanzania, Kim Sun-Pyo, added that his country is planning and working on many new big projects in Tanzania.
He said that since 2004, the Korean Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) has supported the country with Sh2.17 trillion for 18 mega projects.
Some of the upcoming projects that Ambassador Kim mentioned include a new Muhimbili national hospital in Upanga, water supply and waste water treatment facilities in Dar es Salaam and Dodoma, and irrigation facilities and 3 mega dams and water reserves in Zanzibar.
The close relationship between Tanzania and South Korea is a testament to the shared values and aspirations of the two countries.
Both countries are committed to promoting sustainable development and improving the lives of their citizens. The many successful projects that have been implemented through their cooperation are a manifestation of this commitment.
