Kilimanjaro. Police in Kilimanjaro have arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of Isaack Mallya (72), a resident of Umbwe Onana village, Kibosho Magharibi ward, Moshi district.
Mallya is brother to the Kilimanjaro Regional Chairman of the ruling CCM party, Patrick Boisafi
Mallya’s body was discovered on December 2, 2024, outside his home, bearing multiple injuries. The incident has sparked fear and outrage in the community.
Kilimanjaro Regional Police Commander, Simon Maigwa, confirmed the arrests on December 3, stating that investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the brutal killing.
"We have apprehended three suspects linked to this murder and are interrogating them to establish the cause of the crime," said Commander Maigwa.
Patrick Boisafi expressed profound grief and condemned the act as inhumane. He assured that the family trusts the police to conduct thorough investigations and bring the perpetrators to justice.
"This was my elder brother. We grew up in the same town, and the place where he was killed is where I was raised. This is a cruel act that has shocked our community," said Boisafi.
He also linked the incident to a previous case involving the slaughter of the victim’s livestock, suggesting it might have been a precursor to the crime.
Boisafi called for unity and urged the public to reject such acts of violence, emphasizing the sanctity of human life.
"Even in disputes, there is no justification for killing someone. This is an act of extreme cruelty, and we hope it will not be repeated," he said.
He further expressed concerns that such incidents could create fear, especially during the festive season, and urged authorities to strengthen security measures.
"These incidents can tarnish the image of our region and instill fear among relatives and friends traveling to Kilimanjaro from within and outside the country," Boisafi added.
The police have assured the public of a comprehensive investigation and pledged to release further details once inquiries are complete.
