Dar es Salaam. In order to avoid signing bad contracts on the part of the government, there is a need to build the capacity of the office of the Attorney General (AG).
This was one of the recommendations made by a Parliamentary Committee tasked with investigations into contracts guiding exploration of natural gas and showing how the government could benefit from such an undertaking.
Committee’s chairman Dastan Kitandula said yesterday that from the 11 contracts his team studied, they established a number of technical loopholes that were used by investors at the expense of the country’s benefits.
“Again, there is a need to revisit al the contracts and have as few as possible that can be useful and earn the government accurate revenue,” he said when reading the report before Speaker Job Ndugai.
He added that, there it was necessary to ensure that the relevant offices were equipped with the budget and well trained officers, in a bid to revive the sub-sector in the interests of the country.
