He made the remarks during a courtesy call with CPC Central Committee Member Comrade Tang Dengjie at the CCM Headquarters Sub-office in Dar es Salaam.

The meeting, held on Saturday, June 22, 2024, marked a significant occasion during Comrade Dengjie’s official three-day visit to Tanzania.

Dr Nchimbi said the longstanding friendship between Tanzania and China, underpinned by the leadership of CCM and CPC, has flourished over six decades of diplomatic relations.

He highlighted the ideological, political, economic, and social principles guiding this partnership, noting its role as a model for Africa and the world.

“CCM and CPC share a fraternal friendship that has evolved into a solid foundation for fostering economic and investment opportunities, aimed at enhancing the welfare of our people,” stated Ambassador Nchimbi.

According to Dr Nchimbi, this relationship was established by our founders, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere and Chairman Mao Zedong, and has since grown into a strategic partnership.

Ambassador Nchimbi acknowledged the pivotal role played by recent high-level engagements, including President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s visit to China in 2022, where the bilateral relationship was elevated to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

He highlighted successful collaborations in construction, health, tourism, agriculture, medicine, trade, and the economy, urging continued Chinese support for investment in Tanzania’s burgeoning sectors.

In response, Comrade Tang Dengjie affirmed China’s commitment to deepening bilateral ties with Tanzania and supporting initiatives that benefit both nations’ populations.

“The 60 years of diplomatic relations between China and Tanzania stand as a testament to our enduring friendship and mutual respect,” said Comrade Dengjie.

“We are dedicated to further strengthening this relationship for the benefit of our people.”

The statement released after the meeting also outlined the robust economic cooperation between China and Tanzania, with China being Tanzania’s top trading partner for eight consecutive years.

In 2023, bilateral trade volume reached $8.78 billion, reflecting a 5.66 percent increase from the previous year.

China has also invested significantly in Tanzania, with approximately 260 projects across various sectors, solidifying its position as Tanzania’s largest foreign investor.

The historical context of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway (Tazara), a symbol of enduring Sino-African friendship, was emphasised, highlighting its role in enhancing connectivity and regional development.

Both parties expressed optimism about the future of their relationship amidst global changes, aiming to elevate bilateral cooperation to new heights.
