Dar es Salaam. Tanzania’s first locally manufactured airplane, the Skyleader 600, is set to be a major highlight at the Tanzania International Manufacturers Expo (TIMEXPO 2024), which kicks off on Thursday, September 26, at the Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF).

The event’s coordinator, Mr Freddie Manento who is Chief Executive Officer of Radian Limited, revealed that the Skyleader 600 is designed to accommodate two passengers, including the pilot, and is suited for business travelers on long-distance journeys.

The aircraft, produced by Morogoro-based Airplanes Africa Limited (AAL), will be showcased at two locations during the expo.

“One plane will be displayed at the DITF, while another will be stationed at Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) Terminal 3 for testing. Potential buyers or those interested in leasing the aircraft can undergo testing and complete other procedures at the airport,” Mr Manento explained.

TIMEXPO 2024, organized by the Confederation of Tanzania Industries (CTI) in collaboration with the Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TanTrade), has attracted over 300 local and international companies.

Vice President Dr Philip Mpango is expected to officially inaugurate the event, which will run from September 26 to October 2, 2024.

CTI’s Public Relations Manager, Shenina Mangula, shared that exhibitors from 21 countries, including those from East Africa, Europe, Asia, South Africa, the Middle East, and Israel, have confirmed their participation.

She expressed optimism about the event's success, calling it a key opportunity for industrial players.

“This year’s exhibition will feature a wide array of exhibitors, showcasing state-of-the-art products and services from both local and international manufacturers,” Mangula stated.

“The expo will serve as an invaluable platform for manufacturers to build partnerships, explore new markets, and expand operations across Africa.”

TIMEXPO is anticipated to be the most significant event of the year, spotlighting Tanzania's industrial prowess while attracting international interest and investment.
