Dar es Salaam. ACT Wazalendo has issued a public statement alleging the kidnapping of Abdul Omar Nondo, the Chairperson of its Youth Wing.

In a statement issued by the Deputy Secretary for Human Rights and Civic Representation, Mbarala Maharagande, the party claimed that Nondo was abducted this morning by unknown individuals as he was returning from Kigoma, where he had participated in national campaign activities in Tanzania’s western regions.

In response, Police spokesperson David Misime issued a statement, saying the follow-up of the incident began immediately after the report was received by the police, alongside the opening of a file.

Mr Misime said at around 11:00 a.m. at the scene, a man was forcibly arrested and taken by individuals using a white Land Cruiser with registration number T 249 CMV.

"Eyewitnesses reported that during the struggle of the arrest, a small bag was dropped, and some items identified as belonging to Abdul Omar Nondo were among them," says Misime in the statement.

According to the statement, Nondo arrived at the Magufuli Bus Terminal in the Mbezi area of Dar es Salaam aboard a Saratoga bus with registration number T 221 DKB.

“Eyewitnesses reported a scuffle during the abduction, during which a small clothing bag and a pair of handcuffs fell from one of the kidnappers,” reads part of the statement.

ACT Wazalendo’s Dar es Salaam Regional Publicity Secretary, Monalisa Ndala, and the National Officer for Movements and Events, Wiston Mogha, were among the first to arrive at the station. They were able to identify Nondo as the victim by recognizing his clothes in the dropped bag and his notebook.

Furthermore, the party has called on the Inspector General of Police, Camillus Wambura, to take swift action. In a statement, the party urged the police to urgently investigate the incident and ensure Nondo’s immediate release.

“We urge the police to swiftly investigate this incident and ensure the immediate release of Mr Abdul Nondo,” the statement reads.

ACT Wazalendo confirmed that they are actively following up on the case and will provide further updates to the public.
