Dar es Salaam. Serengeti Balloon Safaris, Tanzania’s pioneering balloon adventure company, has been named the World's Best Balloon Ride Operator, marking a historic achievement for both the company and African tourism.

The prestigious award, presented during the grand finale of the World Travel Awards, took place this past weekend in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal. Widely regarded as the “Oscars” of the global tourism industry, the event gathered industry leaders, innovators, and tourism experts from around the world.

"For the first time in history, Serengeti Balloon Safaris from Tanzania is the winner of the best balloon services in the world. Congratulations for your outstanding services," declared the organizers during the awards ceremony.

This recognition highlights not only the exceptional quality and service provided by Serengeti Balloon Safaris but also emphasizes Tanzania’s growing significance on the global tourism map. Serengeti Balloon Safaris has earned a reputation for offering breathtaking aerial views over Serengeti National Park, seamlessly blending extraordinary wildlife encounters with unparalleled ballooning experiences.

The company’s Managing Director, Mr John Corse, expressed his pride in the award, stating, “This recognition underscores our unwavering commitment to excellence and sets a high benchmark for the ballooning industry. It also shines a spotlight on African tourism.”

As the first company to offer balloon flights over the Serengeti, Serengeti Balloon Safaris has built a reputation for safety and unforgettable passenger experiences. The company’s pilots are among the most experienced in the field, with a deep understanding of weather dynamics, having flown over 250,000 guests since their inception.

“We’ve established ourselves as the leading partners in conservation in the parks where we operate,” Mr Corse explained. “Our efforts have been recognized by Tanzania National Parks, who have consistently named us the Best Balloon Operator.”

The company works closely with the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority to maintain the highest safety standards and improve industry practices.

In June 2024, Serengeti Balloon Safaris expanded its operations with the successful launch of its first balloon flight over Tarangire National Park, adding it as the company’s fourth operating site. The inaugural flight, which featured 22 guests in two balloons, began at the northwest Silale Swamp and ended in the scenic Tarangire valley.

During the flight, guests witnessed an array of wildlife, including elephants, buffalo, and various bird species. After landing near the Tarangire River, they were treated to a sumptuous breakfast under an acacia tree, capped off with a celebratory champagne toast.

“One of the highlights was soaring over the western ridge, past the Tarangire Sopa Lodge, where we saw fantastic wildlife,” recalled Ms Claire Warner, one of the inaugural passengers.

Marketing Manager Mr Pascal Kirigiti highlighted Serengeti Balloon Safaris' dedication to continually improving customer experiences. "We consistently strive to enhance our services, and this new route over Tarangire exemplifies our commitment to innovation,” he said.

Tarangire is now the fourth Tanzanian national park where Serengeti Balloon Safaris operates, joining Serengeti, Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and Ruaha National Park. The Tarangire route will be operational from March to June, offering guests a unique and breathtaking perspective of one of Tanzania’s most iconic wildlife sanctuaries.

As Serengeti Balloon Safaris continues to push the boundaries of ballooning adventures, this recognition further cements their position as a leader in the global tourism industry, while continuing to shine a spotlight on the beauty and majesty of Tanzania's natural wonders.
