Dar es Salaam. Some 4,500 primary school pupils have been lifted off the floor, thanks to the Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam’s desk project.
The club has so far donated 1,600 desks valued at Sh250 million, according to Dar es Salaam Rotary Club president Nikki Aggarwal, who was speaking during the desk handover event at Mwananyamala B Primary School.
“The club’s goal is to invest in the future of Tanzania by empowering children through education,” she said in a statement availed to the media yesterday.
Kinondoni MP Tarimba Abbas commended Rotary for the huge support in the education sector, saying it would to some extent address a huge challenge of desks shortage that the majority of public schools are grappling with.
“We are very delighted with the support we receive from Rotary. You are doing a noble undertaking as the desks donated will be used by hundreds of pupils for several years to come,” he insisted.
He pledged that the desks will be properly used and maintained in order to last longer and serve more students. (By The Citizen Reporter)
