Tanzanian wins prestigious award from Harvard University

Dar es Salaam. Professor Karim Manji, a pediatric expert from the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS), has been honoured with a prestigious Alumni Merit Award from Harvard University.

This award, known as the 'Harvard T.H Chan School of Public Health Alumni Merit Award 2024,' is given to alumni of the institution who have demonstrated a strong commitment to improving public health.

Professor Manji, the first Tanzanian to receive this accolade, will be presented with the award on September 27, 2024, in Boston, USA. This is a historic milestone and a significant honour for our nation.

According to a statement released by MUHAS on social media on September 14, 2024, Professor Manji is celebrated as a leading researcher in pediatric diseases.

Throughout his academic career, he has dedicated himself to supporting the community in this vital field. "Professor Manji is a renowned expert and chief researcher in pediatric diseases and child health.

Throughout his career, he has strived to provide exceptional patient-focused care and conduct fundamental research on child nutrition, infectious diseases, and developmental challenges," the statement reads.

The statement also highlights that Prof Manji has published 260 papers that have greatly benefited the community and people of various ages.

He has led several medical trials and funded research projects, and his contributions have led to significant changes in child healthcare policies and guidelines in the country.

This is a remarkable achievement for Prof Manji and brings great recognition to his long-standing efforts to improve child health and community welfare. It is a significant honour for Muhimbili University and our nation as a whole.
