TBA to invest Sh19.5bn in civil servants houses

Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Building Agency (TBA) has embarked on a project to construct 851 houses for civil servants, which will cost Sh19.5 billion.

This was revealed on Thursday September 06 during a tour to the site of the project located in Bunju by deputy minister of Works Transport and Communications, Mr Elias Kwandikwa.

Mr Kwandikwa said that so far about two 200 houses had been constructed. The implementation of the project started in 2007.

“I urge public servants to grab this opportunity to own a house because so far only a few have expressed interest in buying the houses,” said Mr Kwandikwa.

The deputy minister was in agreement with the views expressed by TBA director of Real Estate Baltazar Kimangano who said sales have been affected by the government’s decision to relocate its capital to Dodoma.

“Right now, the civil servants are thinking about buying houses in Dodoma instead of Dar es Salaam, but we have to take this challenge in a positive way,” said Mr Kimangano.

“If we want to sell more, let’s start thinking about the civil servants who have low income, they need to have better houses at affordable prices,” urged the deputy minister.

The current price of TBA houses ranges between Sh38 million and Sh330 million.

The low income houses are sold at between Sh38 million and Sh49 million, bungalows between Sh160 million to Sh170 million while villa houses price stands at Sh330 million.
