What you need to know:

  • The Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) has officially opened the first admission window from July 15 to August 10, 2024

Dar es Salaam. A total of 111,056 successful candidates from the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) 2024 are invited to apply for university slots.

Apart from ACSEE graduates, holders of ordinary diplomas or equivalent qualifications, and those with a Foundation Certificate from the Open University of Tanzania, are also eligible.

The Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) has officially opened the first admission window from July 15 to August 10, 2024. Applicants are reminded to apply directly to their preferred universities.

According to Prof Charles Kihampa, TCU's executive secretary: "To understand eligibility and authorised programmes, applicants must carefully review the Bachelor’s Degree Admission Guidebooks for the 2024/25 Academic year."

TCU announced this on July 15, 2024, two days after the National Examinations Council of Tanzania (Necta) released the 2024 results. This year (2024), a total of 113,536 candidates from schools and private candidates registered for the Form Six exam.

Out of 104,454 school candidates registered, 103,812 (99.39 percent) sat for the exam. In 2023, 96,319 candidates sat for the exam. Among the 9,082 private candidates registered, 8,387 sat for the exam, with 695 not sitting. Recent data Necta indicates a slight increase in the pass rate compared to last year.

TCU emphasises that application procedures are outlined by universities themselves, not by TCU. Detailed criteria and programme qualifications are available on university websites and TCU's admission guidebooks.

"We urge applicants to thoroughly understand TCU's guidelines and university instructions before submitting applications," Prof Kihampa advised.

Applicants are encouraged to visit university websites for accurate application procedures and detailed programme information.

Candidates with foreign examination certificates should submit them to Necta for Secondary Education or the National Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NACTVET) for Diploma equivalence certification before applying for admission.

"Stay informed through TCU’s website, authorised university portals, and TCU’s media announcements," Prof Kihampa added.

During this period, TCU warns against fraudulent agents. "Contact universities directly for admission-related queries. Be cautious and avoid fake agents," Prof Kihampa cautioned.

Inquiries can be directed to TCU for general information.
