Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Gender Networking Program (TGNP) is conducting an orientation session for journalists ahead of the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Conference.

The session, which starts today, December 28, will bring together community radio journalists from the area of its operations and print and digital media platform journalists.

"The session comes ahead of the media campaign where TGNP intends to engage Tanzanians to reflect on the milestones achieved and challenges ever since the Beijing Conference as well as to see how to move forward," reads part of TGNP's statement.

The Beijing Declaration is a global policy framework and blueprint for realising gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls everywhere.

Adopted in 1995 by 189 countries, the Beijing Declaration calls upon governments, the international community, and civil society, including non-governmental organisations and the private sector, to take strategic action.

The 30th anniversary of Beijing opens new opportunities to reconnect, regenerate commitment, charge up political will, and mobilise the public and to take stock of progress made and actions required to address barriers to gender equality and implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
