Dar es Salaam. The Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner (RC), Albert Chalamila, has confirmed that three bodies, believed to be those of motorcycle taxi riders, were recovered from the scene of an accident that occurred on Thursday, February 13, 2025.
The accident took place when a lorry veered off the road and crashed into a motorcycle taxi station at Kimara Stop Over, on the eve of Friday, February 14, 2025. The lorry was travelling from Morogoro to Dar es Salaam.
RC Chalamila on Friday, February 14, 2025, confirmed that by 3:00 am, three bodies had been recovered from under the lorry’s container.
"The bodies are thought to be those of motorcycle taxi riders. We have also recovered numerous motorcycles, which outnumber the bodies found. A police report will provide further details," Mr Chalamila said.
Meanwhile, the Kinondoni Regional Police Commander (RPC) Mtatiro Kitinkwi stated that, since the number of motorcycles recovered exceeded the number of bodies, it is possible that some individuals fled the scene to escape.
"We will provide a detailed report once the cause of the accident is known. It occurred during the night, and we have been at the scene for over two hours," RPC Kitinkwi said.
Mr Chalamila also urged road users to exercise caution and remain vigilant while on the roads.
