Three die in Mbeya road crash

Mbeya. Three people, including freelance journalist Furaha Simchimba, have died in a tragic road accident in Mbeya Region involving a CRN Company bus and a government vehicle.
The accident occurred on Tuesday, 25 February 2025, and was confirmed by Mbeya's Acting Regional Police Commander, Wilbert Siwa.
According to reports, the crash happened in Shamwengo, Mbeya District, when the bus attempted to overtake the government vehicle without caution, leading to a fatal collision. Seven others were injured, with two in critical condition, while the rest received treatment and were later discharged.
"Three people have lost their lives, including a freelance journalist. We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available," Siwa said.
Meanwhile, Mbeya Regional Secretary for Politics and Ideology of the ruling party Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), Christopher Uhagile, said that the accident occurred after officials had escorted the National Chairman of the Parents' Wing, Fadhil Rajabu, who was on a regional tour.
Mr Uhagile also confirmed the death of Daniel Mselewa, a CCM Executive Committee member from Rungwe District, who was among the victims.
"CCM's national leadership has already directed arrangements for final respects to our fallen comrades, as they were on party duty. We will finalize the plans by tomorrow (today)," he said.
