Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has issued an early warning for Dar es Salaam and five other regions of the country over strong winds and widespread floods due to heavy downpour that is expected from November 15 to 17, 2023.

Affected regions include Tanga, Morogoro, Pwani, Mafia Isles, Lindi, Pemba, and Unguja. Strong winds reaching up to 40 kilometers per hour are expected in these areas.

The TMA's five-day severe weather impact-based forecast statement, released on November 15, 2023, indicates that the expected impact includes, widespread flooding affecting a majority of communities, severe traffic disruptions, major roads becoming impassable and danger to life due to fast-flowing water.

"People must take action and prepare because the likelihood and impact are high," the TMA statement said. "TMA will continue to monitor the weather pattern and provide early advisories to the communities."

According to the TMA statement, other regions expected to receive heavy rainfall include some areas in Njombe and Ruvuma regions. However, the impact in these regions is expected to be moderate.

"Today, November 15, Lindi, Mtwara, the Lake Nyasa, Ruvuma, and Njombe regions are also expected to be hit by strong winds reaching 40 kilometers per hour and waves reaching two meters," the statement added.
